Idris Elba returning as Luther
Idris Elba is to reprise his role as troubled murder detective DCI John Luther in a 2-part special of Luther in 2015.
Created and written by award winning and Emmy-nominated writer Neil Cross, the London set crime series will air as two, hour-long event specials.
Neil Cross says: “Ever since we said goodbye to John Luther on Southwark Bridge, there’s hardly been a minute when I didn’t wonder what happened next. So I decided to find out. We’re putting the band back together; Luther is coming back where he belongs. Back to the BBC. Back to London. And back to work.”
Made by BBC Drama Production, the series is co-produced with BBC America.
The news follows yesterday’s announcement of a US remake of the series which will also be written by Cross. Elba will not be starring in the US version but will act as an executive producer.
Luther will film in and around London in March for transmission later in 2015 on BBC One.
