‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ gets a UK Broadcaster

FX UK has acquired the rights to air ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ starring British actor Tom Riley (Monroe, Lost in Austen) as a young Leonardo Da Vinci.

Fox International Channels (FIC) has picked up the exclusive first pay-TV rights to the BBC Worldwide/Starz series Da Vinci’s Demons, which will see the show’s eight episode first season air on FX UK and FIC’s 200 pay-TV entertainment channels to audiences in 120 countries in early 2013

Created and written by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises), Da Vinci’s Demons is a historical fantasy seres which tells the ‘untold’ story of the world’s greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty five-year old da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

The cast also includes: Laura Haddock (Upstairs Downstairs) as Lucrezia Donati, the mistress of Lorenzo Medici and lover of Leonardo Da Vinci; Lara Pulver (Spooks/MI5) as Clarice Orsini, the wife of Lorenzo Medici; and Andrew Brooke (PhoneShop) as Grunwald. .

Steve Macallister, President & Managing Director of Sales & Distribution for BBC Worldwide, commented: “This is a bold and ambitious show from Starz and Jane Tranter’s team which will sit really well with the range of great dramas currently available on FIC’s channels. This production is particularly unique and should generate huge amounts of audience buzz. We’re thrilled to be taking Da Vinci right across the globe, which seems very appropriate for arguably the world’s most renowned polymath.”

Production is currently underway on the show’s eight episode first season in Wales and is due to air on FXUK in early 2013 and Starz in the US Spring 2013.
