Patti LuPone returning; Shazad Latif to guest star!

Sky Atlantic and Showtime have announced the character of Dr. Jekyll will be joining the cast of famous literary characters for the third season of Penny Dreadful.

The critically-acclaimed series will return for nine new episodes in 2016, with Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll played by Shazad Latif (The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Spooks).

Tony Award-winning star Patti LuPone (American Horror Story), who guest starred in season two as the Cut-Wife (pictured below), will return as a series regular in the new role of Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa (Eva Green) with an unconventional new approach.

Other season three guest stars will include: Christian Camargo (Dexter) who will star as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vanessa; Sam Barnett (Jupiter Ascending) as Dr. Seward’s mysterious young secretary; Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels) as Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and Jessica Barden (The Outcast) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).

Rory Kinnear, Simon Russell Beale and Harry Treadaway will also reprise their roles.

Penny Dreadful is created, written and executive produced by John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan’s Desert Wolf Productions and Neal Street Productions.

Production on the third season of Penny Dreadful is currently under way in Dublin, Ireland, for transmission on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Showtime in the US in 2016.
