The Walking Dead’s Wolf to play Mad Hatter

FOX’s Gotham has cast former Walking Dead actor Benedict Samuel as the Mad Hatter in season 3 of the DC Comics based gothic drama.

The Australian actor – who is best known for playing The Wolf in The Walking Dead season 6 – joins the Batman origin series as Gotham‘s new villain,  Jervis Tetch/Mad Hatter, in a recurring role.

A talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago. It is anyone’s guess just how far down the rabbit hole he’s willing to go in order to find her.

Arkham Asylum’s Doctor Hugo Strange (BD Wong) and his assistant Ethel Peabody (Tonya Pinkins) may be responsible for Alice’s whereabouts, with hints dropped in season 2 saw the pair talking about his resurrection experiments while holding a copy of Through the Looking Glass and quoting from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

A recent poster (below) revealed The Court of Owls will be the third season’s big bad – which was revealed at the end of season 2 to be financing Strange’s gruesome human experiments.

Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as police Detective Jim Gordon in his quest to clean up the streets Gotham, which includes hunting down Strange. Meanwhile future Batman Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) searches for the answers behind his parents death.

The cast also features Sean Pertwee, Cory Michael Smith, Morena Baccarin, Donal Logue, Robin Taylor, Camren Bicondova and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Gotham airs on Channel 5 in the UK. The third season is set to air in the US on Fox on 19th September.
