‘Scott & Bailey’ comes “to a natural conclusion after five brilliant series.”
ITV has confirmed that popular detective drama Scott & Bailey will end after the current fifth series.
The series, based on a former Coronation Street stars Suranne Jones and Sally Lindsay idea, and is created by award-winning writer Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Unforgiven) and retired Greater Manchester Police Detective Diane Taylor.
Beginning in 2011, the drama follows two female detectives in the Manchester police, played by Suranne and Lesley Sharp with the final fifth series consisting of a single dark crime story told over a three-part special.
An ITV spokesperson said: “ITV made the decision to not make any more episodes. Suranne and Lesley have loved playing the parts but they’re ready to hand their badges in and do something else.
“It’s definitely not been axed or decommissioned but has just come to a natural conclusion after five brilliant series.”
“It’s a mutually agreed decision by all parties.” Adding, “We totally respect that decision.” With show bosses reportedly telling The Sun they want to “bow out at the top” of the ratings winner.
The final two episodes of Scott & Bailey will air on Wednesday 20th and 27th April at 9pm on ITV.
