Elizabeth Moss begins filming long-awaited second series.

The BBC has announced the casting for the second series of Jane Campion’s award winning drama, Top Of The Lake as filming commences.

Joining Golden Globe winning lead, Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) in the six-part series will be Game Of Thrones Gwendoline Christie in an undisclosed major role. Also joining the cast is, David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures) and Ewen Leslie (The Daughter).

Top Of The Lake Series 2: China Girl is a crime mystery story that begins four years on from the explosive ending of series 1. When the unidentified body of an Asian girl washes up on to Sydney’s Bondi Beach the case seems hopeless – until detective Robin Griffin discovers that China Girl didn’t die alone.

Elisabeth Moss said: “I’m so excited to be back in Australia working with Jane on exploring this wonderful character. I can’t wait for audiences to see where we take Robin’s journey!”

Gwendoline Christie, added: “I am so delighted to be working on Top Of The Lake 2. Jane Campion has been a major creative influence throughout my life and I could not feel more privileged to be working on the next installment of her unique and enthralling drama, alongside the brilliant Elisabeth Moss.”

Top Of The Lake is produced by See-Saw Films for BBC Two in association with BBC First in Australia, BBC UKTV in New Zealand, SundanceTV and Hulu in the United States, ARTE in France and BBC Worldwide. Oscar winner Jane Campion (Bright Star, The Piano), will one again direct the mini-series along with new co-director Ariel Kleiman (Partisan). Campion will also return as co-writer alongside Gerard Lee.

Top of the Lake has begun filming on location in Sydney, Australia and will premiere in the UK on BBC Two in 2017.
