BBC swashbuckling drama The Musketeers has been recommissioned for a third series it has been revealed.

The second series is currently airing on Friday nights on BBC One and is a co-production between BBC One/BBC America and BBC Worldwide.

The drama stars Tom Burke, Luke Pasqualino, Santiago Cabrera, and Howard Charles as The Musketeers with Hugo Speer, Maimie McCoy, Tamla Kari, Ryan Gage, Alexandra Dowling and Marc Warren also starring.

A BBC Worldwide spokesman said: “The Musketeers has delighted audiences at home and around the world and we’re thrilled that we’ve been able to financially support bringing a third series to the BBC, with improved value for the licence fee payer.”

The renewal news was revealed on Twitter by director Andy Hay in response to a fan question about the series, saying: “There’s a 3rd series on the way! We start filming in Czech Republic this April.
