Gillian Anderson, Jim Broadbent among cast of epic adaptation
As filming commences on BBC One’s and Andrew Davies’ six-part landmark adaptation of War And Peace, more casting has been revealed.
Alongside the previously announced cast, including Paul Dano, Lily James and James Norton, will be Jim Broadbent (Paddington) as Prince Bolkonsky, Gillian Anderson (The Fall) as Anna Pavlovna, Rebecca Front (Death Comes To Pemberley) as Anna Mikhailovna and Kenneth Cranham (In The Flesh) as Uncle Mikhail. Aneurin Barnard (Cilla) will play Boris, Tuppence Middleton (The Imitation Game) and Callum Turner (Glue) will play Helene and Anatole respectively and Jessie Buckley (Endeavour) will play Princess Marya, Brian Cox (The Game) as General Kutuzov and Ken Stott (The Hobbit) as Bazdeev.
Stephen Rea (An Honourable Woman) will also star as Prince Vassily Kuragin, Ade Edmondson (Prey) and Greta Scacchi (The Falling) as Count and Countess Rostov. Jack Lowden (The Passing Bells) will star as Nikolai, Tom Burke (The Musketeers) as Dolokhov and Aisling Loftus (Mr Selfridge) as Sonya.
Regarded as one of the greatest novels of all time, the BBC One War And Peace adaptation is made by BBC Cymru Wales Drama, in partnership with The Weinstein Company and BBC Worldwide/Lookout Point, and is directed by Tom Harper (The Scouting Book For Boys, Peaky Blinders).
War And Peace is being filmed on location in Russia, Latvia and Lithuania.
