E4 has picked up the UK rights to air new US comedy Jane The Virgin.

The series centres on the ambitious young Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez, Filly Brown, The Bold and the Beautiful) who, in the middle of studying to become a teacher and holding down a job in a fashionable new Miami hotel, gets proposed to by her long term boyfriend, Michael (Brett Dier, Ravenswood). A meticulous planner, Jane intends to only lose her virginity after they are married based on the advice her grandmother gave her when she was a little girl. However, Jane’s life quickly becomes reminiscent of the telenovas she has grown up with when she is accidently inseminated during a routine check-up. How will Jane explain her mystery pregnancy to her family and friends?

Channel 4’s Chief Creative Officer, Jay Hunt said: “Jane The Virgin feels genuinely innovative and fresh and I’m thrilled it will be joining the stellar line up of acquired shows on E4.”

Stephen Tague, Senior Vice President, Europe for CBS Studios International adds: ‘Jane The Virgin was one of the most talked-about comedies at LA Screening this year, and we are delighted to be working with Channel 4 to bring this fresh new series to E4’s young audience.’

The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television, in association with Electus.

Jane The Virgin is due to air on E4 in 2015 following the US premiere on the CW this October.
