New ABC comedy from Suburgatory wtiter
Former Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan has landed the lead role in the ABC comedy pilot, ‘Selfie’ from Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek.
TV Line reports, the comedy will follow Eliza Dooley (Gillan), a self-obsessed twentysomething who is more concerned with “likes” than being liked. After suffering a very public, very humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media “followers” than she ever imagined… but for all the wrong reasons. Eliza then enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image.
Best known for her role as The Doctor’s companion Amy Pond, the Scottish actress – who will not be using her Scottish accent in the pilot – has also appeared in We’ll Take Manhattan and can also be seen in upcoming comic-book film adaption Guardians of the Galaxy.
