The BBC has confirmed the long awaited airdate of the third series of Sherlock.
The first of three films will begin with ‘The Empty Hearse’ written by Mark Gatiss on January 1st 2014. Stephen Thompson‘s ‘The Sign of Three’ will follow on Sunday 5th January. And the final film penned by Steven Moffat, ‘His Last Vow’ will air on Sunday 12th January.
The US premiere will be on PBS on 19th January.
The detective drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, will finally reveal how Sherlock apparently survived his fall off the roof of St Barts in the series 2 finale, ‘The Reichenbach Fall’.
‘The Killing’ star Lars Mickelson will also appear as Sherlock‘s nemesis Charles Augustus Magnussen. While Freeman’s real-life partner Amanda Abbington is confirmed as playing Mary Morstan.
Announcing the news on Twitter, BBC One also posted a photo (below) of a Hearse driving around London with the airdate ‘Sherlock – 01 01 14’.
