Kill List Director to helm Peter Capaldi’s first few episodes.

Award-winning director, Ben Wheatley is to direct two episodes of BBC One’s Doctor Who series 8 it has been announced.

The renowned director, best known for his violently macabre films such as, Kill List, Down Terrace, Sightseers and A Field in England, is to direct the first two episodes of the sci-fi series starring the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi as the twelfth incarnation of the Timelord.

Ben commented, ‘I am very excited and honoured to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who. I’ve been a fan since childhood (Tom Baker is my Doctor if you are asking).  I’ve been watching the current run of Doctor Who with my son and have discovered it all over again. The work that has been done is amazing.’

Adding: ‘I’m really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor.’

Doctor Who will return with eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith for the 50th anniversary special: ‘The Day of the Doctor’ on 23 November 2013. Matt will then appear in his final episode at Christmas.
