And so it returns…

US pay-TV broadcaster Cinemax has commissioned ‘Sam Hunter,’ a four-part spinoff of BBC One drama ‘Hunted’ from Frank Spotnitz and Kudos Film and Television

Melissa George will return to play the character of Sam, as she goes on the run from her former spy colleagues and attempts to protect her young daughter. She must now work as a freelance spy to find out who wants her dead — and how it connects to the murder of her own mother.

The series which aired in November was a co-production between the BBC and Cinemax, but failed to make an impression on British audiences with lacklustre ratings leading to the BBC deciding not to renew the series. However, in the US, the show earned some of the best reviews for the HBO-owned Cinemax channel and did well in the ratings for the pay cable channel.

The spin-off will again be written by X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz and is expected to be slightly grittier than the original as it will air on premium cable.

The series will be produced by Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions in association with Shine-owned UK indie, Kudos, and will be exec produced by Jane Featherstone, Stephen Garrett, Alison Jackson and Spotnitz.
