Merlin star Colin Morgan, 27 is to appear in the third episode of new BBC One drama series Quirke, starring Gabriel Byrne.

Morgan is set to play Jimmy Minor in episode 3, titled ‘Elegy.’ The role will be his first post-Merlin role for the Irish actor who has previously appeared in Doctor Who.

Quirke is a three-part detective drama based on the books by Benjamin Black (pseudonym of award-winning Irish writer John Banville) and adapted by screenwriters Andrew Davies and Conor McPherson.

Gabriel Byrne stars as the title character, the chief pathologist in a Dublin city morgue – a charismatic loner whose job takes him into unexpected places as he uncovers the secrets of sudden death in 1950s Dublin.

Quirke is currently filming on location in Ireland and will air on BBC One later in 2013.
