The dust settles and the gang pick up the pieces…

The prison gang mourn their losses after T-Dog, Lori and possibly Carole perished last week. While the others dig graves or reminisce Rick (Andrew Lincoln) goes berserk through the prison dispatching the Walkers with an axe. Michonne (Danai Gurira) also wastes a few Walkers after she breaks into the Governor’s (David Morrissey) office taking back her katana and decides to kill some that have been stored.

When Merle finds out what she’s done the Governor decides it’s time for her to go and she’s more than too happy to leave Woodbury. Andrea (Laurie Holden) is less enthusiastic about leaving and the pair part company. The residents of Woodbury and party gather to watch the zombie apocalypse version of WWE. The Governor and Andrea watch Merle (Michael Rooker) and someone else fight surrounded in a ring of walkers on chains. Declaring her disgust The Governor explains it’s all staged but she doesn’t agree with teaching people that Walkers aren’t dangerous. Andrea can’t leave, not without Michonne and I’m sure she will start seeing the dark side of Woodbury that only Michonne saw.

Back at the prison there’s a real sense of how they have become like a family even Glenn (Steven Yeun) saying “I’d trade any number of people for one of ours”. Daryl (Norman Reedus) get’s to show his sensitive side that was brought out back in Series Two with the search for Sofia and now again with the Grimes baby. I will be particularly interested to see how he will change when he’s inevitably reunited with his brother Merle and where his loyalties will lie.

Rick doesn’t even acknowledge the birth of his child and is focused on getting to Lori. He get’s to the room where her body should be but only a bullet and blood on the floor is found. At first I thought that Carl hadn’t shot his mother but pretended to, leaving her to become a walker because he couldn’t shoot her. Unfortunately it’s just because another walker gobbled her up which leaves Rick with nothing to say goodbye to. Even after his wife was shot in the head by his son the writers still managed to make it worse for poor Rick! Suddenly a phone rings in the room and Rick answers. Who’s on the end of the line? It’s another agonizing wait until next week to hopefully find out. After last weeks action packed and very sad episode this week is a more subdued affair but still has more zombie kills than most of Series Two had! They really weren’t lying when the said we’re getting more Walkers this series. The make up is the real star of the show with the zombies looking more decomposed and terrifying than ever.

The Governor is still keeping up his nice guy act but I expect that to start to slip as Andrea upsets the peace at Woodbury and hopefully the person on the end of the phone is the person who let the Walkers into the prison as I’m keen to find out who’s responsible.

Another solid episode in what is shaping up to be ‘The Walking Dead’‘s best series yet. Let’s hope they can keep it going.
