Comedian writer and actor Victoria Wood (Loving Miss Hatto, Eric & Ernie, Housewife) is to star in the first of three new 90 minute ‘Case Histories’ stories alongside Jason Isaacs when the series returns to BBC One in 2013.

Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets, The Patriot) reprises his role of Jackson Brodie, a complex and compulsive private investigator who attempts to unravel disparate case histories in modern-day Edinburgh.

Other cast confirmed for the first episode of the second series include James Cosmo (One Night In Emergency, Braveheart), Gary Lewis (Neds, Billy Elliot) and Maurice Roëves (The Damned United, River City).

As well as Isaacs, the second series sees the return of ‘Case Histories’ regulars Amanda Abbington (Open Doors, Being Human), Millie Innes (Single Father) and Zawe Ashton (Misfits).

Victoria Wood is delighted to be part of the cast: “I am a huge fan of Kate Atkinson and couldn’t resist the chance to be involved in Case Histories.”

Jason Isaacs adds: “I can’t wait to put on the crumpled, witty, self-destructive, noble and naughty skin of Jackson Brodie again and dive into the unique flavour of Kate Atkinson’s worlds. Nobody connects the past with the present and the absurd with the heart-wrenching like she does and we all feel excited and lucky to bring another bunch of stories of damage and delight to the screen.”

The first episode of the new series is written by Peter Harness (Wallander, Frankie Howerd: Rather You Than Me) with episodes two and three written by Emily Ballou (The Slap) and Debbie O’Malley (Silk, Upstairs Downstairs) respectively.

Case Histories is executive produced by Helen Gregory (Case Histories, No Angels), Paul Trijbits (Tamara Drewe, Jane Eyre) and Jason Isaacs for Ruby Film And Television and Matthew Read (Murder, Wallander, Lip Service) for BBC Scotland.

The drama is produced by Eric Coulter (Taggart, Rebus) and directed by Kenny Glenaan (Summer, Being Human) and David Richards (The Runaway, Reckless).

Case Histories’ started shooting in Edinburgh this week and will air on BBC One in 2013.
