Go behind the badge of BBC America’s Copper – and get up-close with the tough but committed Detectives of Five Points
BBC America has released a new behind the scenes featurette featuring leads Tom Weston-Jones and Kevin Ryan as they introduce us to their characters in the new original drama Copper for BBC America.
Tom Weston-Jones (Spooks/MI5) who plays Kevin Corcoran; An intense, rugged Irish-immigrant cop working the city’s notorious Five Points neighbourhood says: “If Corcoran, Maguire and O’Brien were around today doing what they do, they’d be out of jobs quicker than anybody!”
Weston-Jones also explains why its fun to play the tortured anti-hero: “He just oversteps the mark so many times and pushes too hard for the things he wants… That’s what I love about his detective work.”
Copper Series Co-Creator & Executive Producer, Emmy Award Winner Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Streets, Oz) says, “The police were a gang as much as any gang that existed in New York.”
Kevin Ryan who plays Detective Francis Maguire says: “Kevin Corcoran is just like the Super Cop.” Dylan Taylor (Detective Andrew O’Brien) concurs, ” In 1864, the Five Points New York, you don’t want to be on the end of [Corcoran]’s overhand-right!”
The story focuses on a gripping 1860s New York City, and centre’s on Kevin Corcoran,. Corcoran is struggling to maintain his moral compass in a turbulent world while on an emotional and relentless quest to learn the truth about the disappearance of his wife and the death of his daughter.
Copper stars Tom Weston-Jones (Spooks/MI-5) and Franka Potente (The Bourne Supremacy, Run Lola Run). The series is created by Fontana and Academy Award-nominee Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland)
