‘Merlin’ co-creator and executive producer Johnny Capps has revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con 2012, that the popular BBC series is to be developed into a trilogy of theatrical films based on the TV series.

Although in its early stages of planning, Johnny Capps revealed: “We’re in discussions with BBC about Season 6, but we’re talking about the movies,” says Capps. “We’re hopefully going to do a trilogy – three movies. We will focus on them when we finish Season 5.”

However Capps is unsure as to what direction the movies will take at this stage saying:

“One idea we’ve been playing around with is to reboot the whole series [for the films],” says Capps. “We would go back in time and start the story again and show different parts that you didn’t see in the series. The other idea is to do a continuation, but we haven’t decided yet.”

At this point there is no news regarding if any of the existing cast including; Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Angel Coulby or Katie McGrath will appear in the films – or if the parts are to be re-cast.

Members of the ‘Merlin’ cast and producers are currently attending the Comic-Con to promote the forthcoming fifth series, which will air on BBC One in the Autumn and air on Syfy in the US.
