Here is a first look at the new movie adaptation of the popular 70s TV show, The Sweeney, Directed and co-written by Nick Love (The Football Factory, The Firm) and John Hodge (Trainspotting).

The film stars; Ray Winstone as Jack Regan and Ben Drew (aka Plan B) as George Carter

Summary:

Nick Love’s long-gestating big-screen adaptation of hard-hitting cult 1970s cop show “The Sweeney.” Ray Winstone is attached to star as no-nonsense policeman Jack Regan. The original series, which aired on ITV for three years in the 1970s, is credited with revolutionizing the TV cop show genre, portraying the detectives as tough roustabouts who liked a drink and some fisticuffs as much as the criminals they were chasing.

In 2011 in a statement from Vertigo Films, Nick Love states, “I’m very excited about Ben playing Carter – he brings an intelligence and sensitivity that is crucial for ‘The Sweeney.’ Ben is also one of the most promising and multi-talented young performers around. For me, Ray (Winstone) and Ben are the ultimate casting for a character driven action thriller set in London today.”

Ben Drew adds. “It’s a dream come true for me to be in a film with Ray Winstone who is one of my favorite British actors of all time and I’m really excited about working with Nick Love in what I feel will be a challenging role for me to play.”

Ray states, “I can’t wait to work with Nick Love on ‘The Sweeney,’ it was an inspired casting to have Ben Drew as George Carter, I’m a huge fan of his.”

Release date to be announced.
