BBC One’s adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ modern classic

Eddie Redmayne and Clémence Poésy star as the passionate young lovers Stephen and Isabelle, brought together by love and torn apart by the First World War, in BBC One’s adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ modern classic, Birdsong.

This extraordinary best-selling novel has been made for the first time, adapted by award-winning Abi Morgan (Iron Lady, The Hour) and produced by Working Title Television.

Eddie Redmayne, who plays young Englishman Stephen Wraysford, says: “Birdsong had an overwhelming impact on me when I first read it in my teens. It is a privilege to now be part of bringing Sebastian Faulks’ masterpiece to the screen.”

Clémence Poésy, who plays Isabelle Azaire, adds: “I am so happy to be a part of this exciting adventure and bring to life such a beautiful story.”

The 2×90 minute adaptation is directed by award-winning director Philip Martin (Wallander, Hawking, Prime Suspect) and produced by Lynn Horsford (Any Human Heart, Boy A). The executive producers are Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Juliette Howell for Working Title and Lucy Richer for the BBC
