From femme fatale Irene Adler in Sherlock to famed enchantress in ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’
Spooks and Sherlock actress Lara Pulver has landed a role as a series regular in new drama series ‘Da Vinci’s Demons‘ alongside Tom Riley.
The historical fantasy drama written by David S.Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman Begins) is set to air on US channel Starz, and is also a BBC Worldwide production.
Telling the untold story of the world’s greatest genius Leonardo Da Vinci when he was 25 years old and his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence as the brilliant and passionate artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.
Pulver who also starred in US series True Blood, playing fairy Godmother Claudine Crane, is to play famed enchantress and political machinator Clarice Orsini, aristocratic wife of Florentine ruler Lorenzo Medici, according to Deadline.
Recently her scenes as Irene Adler in episode one of series two of Sherlock: A Scandal In Belgravia, in which she appeared naked, helped it to become the most watched programme on the BBC iplayer so far this year, with 2.5 million views – 600,000 more than the next most popular show, which was the third episode of Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall.
Production of Da Vinci’s Demons is set to begin in summer 2012. Starz will premiere series in the U.S. in 2013, BBC Worldwide will be distributing internationally.
