Star Trek continues to ‘live long & prosper’
Netflix has acquired the international rights to the new Star Trek series.
Star Trek will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, with the CBS series airing initially in the US. with Netflix exclusively premiering the new series globally within 24 hours of the US.
Netflix is also making all 727 existing episodes of the iconic Star Trek television library – including Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise available around the world on Netflix by the end of 2016.
In Canada, the rights to Star Trek have been acquired by Bell Media premiering on Canada’s CTV, on the same night as CBS.
Star Trek is based on Gene Roddenberry’s original series. The new series is co-created and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller and made by CBS Television Studios in association with Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment.
The new Star Trek series will begin production in Toronto in September for broadcast in January 2017.
