*Spoilers ahead for the Penny Dreadful Season 3 finale.*
Showtime and Sky Atlantic drama Penny Dreadful has shocked fans by ending the recent third season with the surprise death of series lead Vanessa Ives (played by Eva Green). The final scenes see her ask her returned love Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) to kill her out of mercy and release her from her constant battle with evil. The closing credits clearly stated “The End”.
Penny Dreadful series creator and executive producer John Logan confirmed in a new video that the series will not be returning, as he always intended it to only be three seasons. Eva Green and Josh Hartnett also say goodbye to their characters and explain that ending.
