Nixon to play couples therapist
Emmy award-winning actress Cynthia Nixon (Sex And The City) is to guest star in the second season of Showtime drama The Affair.
Season 1 of The Affair told the story of waitress Alison (Ruth Wilson) who s trying to come to terms with a bereavement, and burgeoning writer Noah (Dominic West), who during a criminal investigation reveal details of an affair they had which destroyed their marriages to their respective partners Cole (Joshua Jackson) and Helen (Maura Tierney).
Created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, Deadline reports, season 2 will see the story told separately from four different perspectives, revealing four distinct truths. Nixon will play Marilyn Sanders, a direct and challenging Manhattan couples therapist who is helping Noah and Alison come together after a period of strain.
Noah is trying to balance the temptations of success, the family he left behind, and the woman he loves. Meanwhile, Noah’s former wife Helen is attempting to piece her life together while navigating divorce proceedings, care for her children, and her parents’ noxious influence. Cole, is struggling to overcome past heartbreak and start a promising new life.
The Affair season 2 will air in the US Sunday, October 4 at 10pm on Showtime. Sky Atlantic airs the series in the UK.
