Watch the new trailer for BBC One’s new adaptation of L. P. Hartley’s The Go-Between starring Joanna Vanderham.

Set in the blazing hot summer of 1900, The Go-Between is told from the perspective of 12-year-old middle-class boy, Leo Colston (Jack Hollington), who is invited to stay at his school friend Marcus Maudsley’s elegant family home. A chain of events ultimately prove to be the catalyst for a shocking tragedy that will haunt him forever.

Anxious to please, Leo – who is enthralled by Marcus’s beautiful and wilful older sister Marian (Vanderham) – is slowly and unwittingly drawn into a web of deceit as he begins passing messages for Marian who is pursuing an illicit and passionate affair with tenant farmer Ted Burgess (Ben Batt), a man of much inferior social position whom she can never marry.

The 90-minute drama, written by Adrian Hodges (The Musketeers) also stars Lesley Manville, Jack Cutmore-Scott and Samuel Joslin.

The Go-Between will air on BBC One, Sunday, 20th September at 9pm.
