The BBC closes it’s doors to ‘The Paradise’
Disappointing news for fans of the The Paradise, as the BBC has announced its decision to axe the popular period drama after two series.
Starring Joanna Vanderham and Emun Elliott, the series, which was set in an 1875 department store is adapted from the classic French novel by Emile Zola, attracting around 6 million viewers for the first series and slipping to 5 million by series 2.
Elaine Cassidy, Matthew McNulty and David Hayman also starred.
A BBC spokesperson said: “We are incredibly proud to have made two successful series of period drama The Paradise for BBC One.
“However, in order to make room new dramas to come through, The Paradise won’t be returning.”
