Doctor Who 50th anniversary schedule announced by BBC.

The BBC has revealed the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode will be titled: ‘The Day Of The Doctor.’

A 75-minute special will also star, former tenth Doctor, David Tennant, John Hurt, Billie Piper and Jenna Coleman. The Doctor’s long-time nemesis The Daleks will also feature.

Matt Smith, says: “The Day Of The Doctor is nearly here! Hope you all enjoy. There’s lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now.”

Danny Cohen, Director BBC Television said: “It’s an astonishing achievement for a drama to reach its 50th anniversary.

“I’d like to thank every person – on both sides of the camera – who has been involved with its creative journey over so many years.”

Smith will appear in his final episode on Christmas Day – which is currently filming – with Scottish actor Peter Capaldi announced last month as his replacement.

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer on Doctor Who said: “50 years has turned Doctor Who from a television show into a cultural landmark. Personally I can’t wait to see what it becomes after a hundred.”

BBC Two will also air a one-off special, An Adventure In Space and Time, written by Mark Gatiss and starring David Bradley as the first Doctor, William Hartnell.
