HBO has announced vampire drama True Blood has been renewed for a seventh season

Season six showrunner Brian Buckner will continue his role for the new series; how many episodes is yet to be announced following a shorter sixth run due to main cast members Anna Paquin and husband Stephen Moyer having twins.

The series also stars: Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Alexander Skarsgård, Christopher Meloni, Chris Bauer, Kristin Bauer van Straten and Lauren Bowles amongst the large cast.

Season six, which is currently airing in the US, is due to debut on FOX in the UK in the autumn.

HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo said: “True Blood remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers.”

Adding: “Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.”

True Blood will return for series seven in the US in the summer of 2014. The UK date is yet to be announced.
