Heres a clip of Carey Mulligan singing a slowed down version of New York, New York as Sissy in a scene taken from her new film Shame.

The film also stars Michael Fassbender as Mulligan’s brother Brandon , James Badge Dale as Brandon’s boss, Nicole Beharie, Hannah Ware, Elizabeth Masucci and is directed by Steve McQueen

Mulligan told Digital Spy: “The plan for that was always to sing live, not dub, and sing in one take. We did about 15 takes because there were takes where I was so nervous – you could hear my voice shaking – so they were useless.

“We just worked our way into the feel of it, but then if I ran out of breath we had to scrap that take. [Director Steve McQueen] never wanted to touch any of it in post-production.

“It was great for this part because she’s not a great singer, I’m not a great singer. It was more about her ability to hold a room and the message she was trying to convey to her brother. It’s so job specific, I’m not a singer! It was a fun experiment and one of the reasons why this role was so challenging.”
