Channel 4 have renewed TopBoy for a second series of four Episodes to be aired in 2012.
The drama written and produced by Ronan Bennett focuses on a group of Hackney drug dealers living on London’s Summerhouse Estate.
The drama which aired earlier this month for four episodes on consecutive nights averaged 1.9m viewers for channel 4 and starred Ashley Walters and Kierston Wareing.
Channel4’s chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: “TopBoy encapsulates everything that our drama is about: hugely original and passionate, with a brilliant roster of new talent. I’m thrilled that we’ll be seeing more.”
Head of drama for Channel 4, Camilla Campbell, added: “We always seek to produce drama with a distinct authorial voice that reaches the heart of our audience.
“We were delighted that TopBoy resonated so widely and captured a world behind the headlines in a deeply humane and absorbing way, and look forward to inviting its loyal viewers back next year.”
