The Creators discuss Copper

Following on from the two previous Copper trailers released, BBC America have released a ‘Making of’ featurette for the 1860s cop drama with the Executive Producers, Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson talking us through their inspiration for the show.

Copper stars Tom Weston-Jones (Spooks/MI-5) and Franka Potente (The Bourne Supremacy, Run Lola Run) in the BBC America’s all new original series, “a cop show set in New York during the Civil War.”

The series is created by Fontana and Academy Award-nominee Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland)

Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man) explains, “I think the idea of doing a period piece is really exciting because you’re now looking at New York City a 140 some-odd years ago… It was a messy, confusing time.”

Tom Fontana (Homicide: Life on the Streets, Oz) agrees: “We’re going to very accurately portray the period – but it’s very, very reflective of the times we live in now.

“Copper is a gripping crime series set in 1860s New York City, and centre’s on Kevin Corcoran (Weston-Jones), an intense, rugged Irish-immigrant cop working the city’s notorious Five Points neighbourhood.

Corcoran is struggling to maintain his moral compass in a turbulent world while on an emotional and relentless quest to learn the truth about the disappearance of his wife and the death of his daughter.
