ITV cancels drama after one series

ITV has cancelled Jekyll & Hyde after one series, writer and executive producer Charlie Higson has confirmed.

Breaking the news on twitter, Higson revealed he had plans for a second series but ITV has decided they don’t want any more episodes of the 1930’s set drama.

The series began in a controversial early evening slot, beginning will 4.3 million viewers but failed to keep viewers interest as it dropped to 1.8 million for its final episode.

The series starred Tom Bateman as the troubled hero, Robert Jekyll and his alter ego Dr Hyde, the grandson of the original doctor depicted in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel. The series also featured Richard E. Grant, Natalie Gumede, Ace Bhatti, Ruby Bentall, Donald Sumpter and Enzo Cilenti.

ITV has not commented on the series cancellation.
