‘Richonne’ go on the hunt for weapons… and deer.

In episode 12 of The Walking Dead, the episode started with tall trees in a wooded area with sunlight streaming through the branches.  It almost looked tranquil, had I not known what was beneath those branches in the undergrowth.  Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) were out scavenging for weapons in order to prepare for the fight against Negan.  It’s been set up to suggest that they’ve been out for a while, with little luck.  Ever since Rick and Michonne became a couple, the fandom exploded with the name, “Richonne”.  While they seem to be an extremely popular couple, I’m yet to see the appeal.  Anyway, while Michonne was driving (and not keeping her eyes on the road very much), she was explaining to Rick why they should return back to camp soon.  However, Rick seemed optimistic that they were going to find the treasure very soon and that they didn’t need to return just yet.

Back at Alexandria, Tara (Alanna Masterson) approached Rosita (Christian Serratos) offering to help her with tending to her facial wound.  Rosita is definitely not my favourite, I understand it’s the zombie apocalypse and the world is ending but she needs to take a leaf out of Richonne’s book and lighten up a little bit.  The episode cuts swiftly back to Rick and Michonne where they find a military Walker with a decent sized weapon on its back.  Realising that’s their target, they go on the lookout for more Walkers alike. Rosita is also out on the warpath, searching for weapons by herself.  I can already tell that this isn’t going to end well and was quickly proved right when a less than pleasant looking zombie attacked her.  This episode jumped back and forth quite a lot and before I knew it, we were back to Rick and Michonne.  Just as they’re admiring a mass of Walkers with weapons hanging off their backs, they fall through the roof of the building they were stood on.  However, every cloud has a silver lining because the room they fell into stored more food than they could’ve imagined.  Tucking in to some questionable pouches, they discussed life after Negan; life after the war has been won.  Michonne suggests that Rick should be in charge, but would being the leader of masses of people eventually get to his head?

‘Richonne’ finally take on the herd of zombies but it appears they’ve bitten off more than they can chew when they start getting shot at and Michonne hops into the boot of Rick’s car.  Inevitably, the car gets surrounded by Walkers and they find themselves in a bit of a pickle.  I’m not sure if it was poor or perfect timing but out the corner of his eye, Rick spots the deer Michonne tried hunting earlier.  Next thing we know, Michonne is staring down in horror at a group of Walkers enjoying a feast on some poor creature.  Obviously, the victim is the deer but Michonne doesn’t know that and drops her sword in despair, thinking that Rick became a zombie snack.  It’s not long before she’s put out of her misery though, when Rick suddenly appears and order is restored.

The next step is to present Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) with the weapons and they end up striking a deal.  However, Tara reveals she has something to tell Rick.  I can only hope it’s the location of the camp she came across earlier in the season.  The episode ends with Sasha and Rosita planning to go on their own to kill Negan.  They’re both aware that they probably won’t be coming back but to be honest, I wouldn’t miss either character.  My hopes for the next episode is that the groups will develop their fight against Negan, and things might start to get more interesting.
