BBC One has confirmed they have recommissioned Army drama Our Girl for a third series in 2017.

Starring Michelle Keegan as army medic Georgie Lane, the end of last night’s final episode of series two (5th Oct) saw Georgie surprise fans by choosing neither of her love interests: Jamie (Royce Pierreson) and first-love Elvis (Luke Pasqualino).

Our Girl creator Tony Grounds told the Radio Times: “I always wanted her to be her own woman and say ‘no, I’m choosing to do something else with my life, I’m not going to be defined by Jamie and have the big house or Elvis and be with him. That was always what I wanted to do.”

Michelle Keegan says: “I’m so happy that we’ll be back for another series as I think there’s definitely more stories to tell with Georgie. The reaction to the show has been overwhelming and I’m really thankful to everyone who’s watched and supported it. It was an amazing experience filming with such an incredible group of people and I can’t wait to do it all over again”

Grounds revealed, although he hasn’t yet decided on a location for the third series, he does know what the series focus will be: “What I was hoping to do next time is look at emergency disaster relief which is again what British forces do – when there are disasters across the world, the army can go in and help.”

“I’m doing the research at the moment so I haven’t put my finger on the globe yet… I’m going to be looking where the natural disasters are and where the British army’s involved so I haven’t 100% chosen the place.

Our Girl will return to BBC One in 2017.
