The BBC has released a trailer for Ripper Street Series 4. Eagle-eyed fans will notice the series has moved from BBC One to BBC Two – the seven-part series aired exclusively on Amazon Prime earlier in the year.

Three years have passed since Edmund Reid (Matthew MacFadyen) left the heaving maelstrom of Whitechapel for a life of quiet contemplation by the sea with his daughter at the end of series 3.  However, when Reid’s old friend Isaac is accused of murder, he is drawn back to Whitechapel to investigate, stating “there can be no peace for men with blood on their hands.”

Series 4 also sees the return of stars, MyAnna Buring, Jerome FlynnAdam Rothernberg and Charlene Mckenna. New cast additions include Matthew Lewis as a new policeman at H-Division, and David Threlfall as the new series villain, Abel Croker.

Amazon Prime has already confirmed that Ripper Street will end with a final fifth series, which will see the return of  Joseph Mawle as Detective Inspector Jedediah Shine, who was last seen at the end of the second season (read my interview with Joseph back in 2013 here). The final series will air in late 2016 on Amazon Prime.

Ripper Street Series 4 is currently scheduled to air on BBC Two in the week of 20 – 26th August. We will update when the exact date is confirmed.
