HBO and Sky Atlantic have unveiled a new extended trailer & poster for upcoming sci-fi western Westworld.

Loosely based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.  Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

The Westworld trailer shows the deep sinister side of the artificial Western theme park that’s been created by Dr Robert Ford (Sir Anthony Hopkins), where robots like Dolores (played by Evan Rachel Wood) treated as slaves who”are built to gratify the desires of people who pay to visit your world.”

The trailer also reveals Ed Harris as the Man in Black, who says he’s come to free Dolores ” No choice you ever made was your own. You have always been a prisoner … What if I told you I’m here to set you free?”

A series from J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, the cast also stars James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Jeffrey Wright in the dystopian western.

Westworld will air on HBO in the US on 2nd October, closely followed in early October (date yet to be confirmed) on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
