Elizabeth Perkins and Donald Sumpter join cast of new BBC Two drama, One Child

More cast announced for BBC Two drama as filming commences

Weeds actress Elizabeth Perkins and Game Of Thrones Donald Sumpter have joined the cast of BBC Two drama, One Child, written by BAFTA Award-winning Guy Hibbert (Blood And Oil, Five Minutes Of Heaven).

The 2×90-minute drama, stars Katie Leung (Harry Potter, Run) as Mei, a first-born Chinese girl adopted by an American mother and British father, who will be played by Perkins and Sumpter.

When asked to return to her birthplace, Guangzhou, when her birth mother, Liu Ying (Mardy Ma) desperately seeks her assistance in saving her son, Ajun (Sebastion So), Mei struggles with who she really is and where her loyalties lie.  How far will Mei go to help the woman who gave her away and the brother she’s never met? One Child takes a new look at what it means to be family.

One Child is co-produced by BBC In-House Drama England Production and Sundance TV. Filming has begun on location in London and Hong Kong for transmission later in the year.
