The BBC has intriguingly announced that Christmas Day will see a special mini episode of Sherlock, titled ‘Many Happy Returns’.

The short prequel will be available via the BBC’s interactive Red Button between Christmas Day and the airing of the first episode of the third series: ‘The Empty Hearse’ on New Year’s Day.

The synopsis reads: “Sherlock Holmes has been gone for two years. But someone isn’t quite convinced that he’s dead…”

No cast has been announced, which leaves much speculation as to if the shows stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will appear.
