ITV cancels detective drama after four series.

Star of ITV drama Whitechapel, Rupert Penry-Jones has revealed the show has been cancelled after four series.

Breaking the news on twitter (November 16), Penry-Jones tweeted:

“Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone but ITV don’t want any more Whitechapel. That’s all folks x”

Following up the tweet with another saying:

“No not joking I am afraid.
Silk coming soon though 😉 and I am off somewhere amazing for something new. Stay tuned x”

The series which began in 2009 and ended in October 2013, starred Penry-Jones as DI Chandler alongside Phil Davis as DS Miles. Steve Pemberton also starred as crime history expert, Edward Buchan.

Series 3 & 4 Director, Jon East, responded to the news tweeting:

“We went out on a bang! Shame nevertheless, it was on a great roll, a terrific cast & crew firing on all cylinders. So, onwards!!!!!”

Rupert Penry-Jones can be seen next in the third series of BBC One legal drama, Silk starring alongside Maxine Peake.
