New US adaptation casts Tennant in the same role.

David Tennant is to reprise his role as DS Hardy in the US Fox remake of Broadchurch, which will again be written and executive produced by Chris Chibnall.

Series one of, Broadchurch focused on the murder of a young local boy who was found dead at the bottom of the cliffs overlooking the beach. The series attracted over ten million viewers in the UK and aired in the US to glowing reviews.

TV Guide reports, the Scottish actor and former Doctor Who, is to have an American accent in the new adaptation which begins filming in January, and is expected to air during 2014-2015 as part of Fox’s “event series” initiative.

Chibnall is currently writing the second series to air on ITV in the UK, but has insisted, along with ITV’s director of television, Peter Fincham, that the new episodes will not be a “formulaic repeat of series one” and refuses to reveal if any of the stars are returning saying: “I would take nothing for granted, I would just wait and see!”

Dan Futterman (In Treatment) and Anya Epstein (In Treatment) will also join Chibnall as executive producers and showrunner for the US remake, along with Shine America’s Carolyn Bernstein (The Bridge) and Jane Featherstone (The Hour) for Kudos.

David Tennant will next be seen on BBC One in, The Escape Artist and has reprised his role as the 10th Doctor for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special.
