Actress Sarah Lancashire has announced that she will no longer be playing Miss Audrey in BBC One’s popular period drama, The Paradise.

The Daily Mail reports the 48-year-old cited a filming clash with her other Bafta-nominated role of Caroline in Last Tango In Halifax – also on BBC One – as the reason for her departure.

Lancashire will only appear on screen as the head of the ladieswear department for half of the second series of, The Paradise which begins next month. However, a BBC spokesman said, “the door is very much open for her return.”

Sarah Lancashire said: “I’m very sad to go but unfortunately it was a decision that I had to take as the filming schedule clashed with Last Tango In Halifax and I couldn’t do both”.

A BBC spokesman said: “Due to a clash with commitments, it was agreed that Miss Audrey would only appear in a couple of episodes.”

The Paradise, which averaged nearly six-million viewers for series one, returns in October. Last Tango In Halifax is currently set to return for a second series in November.
