Matt Smith‘s involvement in series eight of Doctor Who has come under speculation recently, with many unsure as to whether the promising actor would be returning to play the Doctor – however, the man himself has now CONFIRMED he will be continuing to play the Eleventh Doctor for another series.

In an interview from Saturday’s edition of The Sun’s TV Magazine, Smith says: “I’m on a break for a couple of months while I’m in Detroit making How To Catch A Monster.”

“We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014.”

Showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed the commission of series 8 at the BAFTA Television Awards in London this week, Moffat commented: “This is a thing that just seems to have slipped by… so can I say it very firmly – Series 8 is absolutely, definitely confirmed. It is real and it’s happening – it’s [taking up] most of my time at the moment.”
