Getting On nailed that world with its deadpan humour and deep humanity.”

A US pilot of hit NHS ward BBC4 comedy Getting On has been commissioned by US cable network HBO in conjunction with BBC Worldwide.

Directed by Peter Capaldi Getting On first hit our screens in 2009 and centred on the staff of a busy and over stretched NHS hospital ward, the subject matter firmly based in the bittersweet reality of such a setting.  In 2011 comedienne Jo Brand won a BAFTA for her portrayal of the harassed nurse Den,  a mental health nurse herself for ten years; the experience has provided Jo with a great basis for creating and acting in the show.

The US project is being guided and coordinated by Big Love creators Will Scheffer and Mark Olsen and the original writers/ co-stars Jo Brand, Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine will act as overseeing producers on the re-imagined American nursing series. Due to their own experiences with elderly relatives and the hospital care they received Scheffer and Olsen were very keen to adapt the sitcom for American audiences, both were inspired by the themes and issues raised in Getting On and knew they would be significant to many different people.

No airdate has yet been given for the US pilot, but the BBC announced in May that Getting On would be returning for a third series in the near future.
