Take a look at not only The Doctor’s new assistant…but a very dapper looking Doctor, sporting a new waistcoat to add to his trademark bow tie, in the first official photo released by the BBC of Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and his new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman.

The photo is taken on set of the series seven currently filming in Wales, in which Jenna-Louise Coleman will make her first appearance in the Christmas episode after a heartbreaking storyline in episode 5 will see the departure of The Doctor’s current companions, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as Amy and Rory Pond.

Matt Smith commented to the BBC Blog: ‘It [filming on the new series] is going well. Jenna brings a really different energy to the show – one which I think is very interesting.’

Doctor Who will return to BBC One in the autumn.
